Peoria County Board Chairman Accepting County Treasurer Applications

Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew A. Rand invites interested individuals to apply for the position of Peoria County Treasurer. The appointed individual will serve through November 30, 2018.
The vacancy was created after the retirement of Edward "Tripp" O'Connor on January 31, 2017. Per statute, the Chairman, with the consent of the County Board, has 60 days from the date the County Board accepted Mr. O'Connor's resignation to fill the vacant position. The resignation was accepted at the Peoria County Board meeting on February 9, 2017. The seat must be filled by April 10, 2017.
Also per statute, Mr. O'Connor's replacement must be a Republican and must reside within Peoria County.
"The Treasurer position is significant in that it not only oversees the collection and distribution of taxes, but also the investment of Peoria County's dollars," says County Board Chairman Andrew A. Rand. "We will be looking at candidates who have appropriate backgrounds and can also lead a department."
The duties of the Treasurer's Office include receipt, management and disbursement of public funds, as well as collection, management and distribution of property taxes levied by various units of local government. The Treasurer has the responsibility of collecting real estate taxes two times each year.
Applications are being accepted through March 1, 2017.
