Census Day is Coming!

Mar 18, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Census Day is April 1, 2010. Households should participate in the census because an accurate population count ensures equal representation at local, state, and federal legislative levels. Also, federal and state funding of some service programs is based on population. Participating in the census is also required by law. Census questionnaires will be sent to all households in March and are to be returned by April 1. A census representative will explain why participating in the census is important and how census results are used for re-districting. Any questions regarding the questionnaire or concerns regarding privacy issues will also be addressed during this class. This workshop is free.

It's Not Easy Being Green

Apr 8, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Many of us don't always reduce, recycle, or reuse because it's just not convenient. We toss our plastic water bottles in the trash because a recycling bin isn't available. We don't compost because it's easier to buy fertilizer. We use incandescent light bulbs because they're cheaper than compact fluorescents. Unfortunately, our minimal efforts are having a maximum, negative effect on the environment. At this class, Peoria County's recycling educator will describe simple things we can do to conserve and preserve for future generators. She will explain how making small changes in our behaviors will have a large, positive impact on the environment. Wear green to this class and receive a free recycled product. This workshop is free.
