Are You Prepared?
by EMA Director Vicky Turner and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator Jason Marks
Thursday, September 30
6:00 - 7:00pm
September is National Preparedness Month and with winter approaching it's a great time to prepare yourself and your family for emergencies such as ice storms and power outages, not to mention next year's tornado season. If a disaster were to strike your community, would you be able to readily locate your family members to check on their safety? If you do not have a family emergency plan or an emergency preparedness kit, now is the time to make one. Learn from emergency management experts how to plan for and protect your family's safety.
Protecting Our Animals
by Director of Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) Lauren Malmberg
Thursday, October 7
6:00 - 7:00pm
This spring, Peoria County took control of animal control and protection services and what was previously known as PAWS has now become PCAPS (Peoria County Animal Protection Services). If you love animals, learn how you can help abandoned, neglected, or abused animals in our own community. PCAPS Director Lauren Malmberg will describe volunteer opportunities, explain animal control laws, and discuss such issues as overpopulation and inhumane care. Just attending this class and learning how to report animal abuse will ensure more of our four-legged friends get the loving care they deserve.
Stop the Scam!
by TRIAD Member Beth Bernard
Thursday, October 28
6:00 - 7:00pm
If something sounds too good to be true, beware the sham. Peoria County's TRIAD member will help you recognize scams by describing common schemes and methods scam artists use to lure their targets. Protect yourself and your loved ones by learning what to watch for and how to report suspicious solicitations. TRIAD is a safety organization that focuses on reducing victimization of senior citizens, but persons of any age are subject to scams and thus would benefit from this presentation.
