Coroner: About Johnna Ingersoll
In 1988, Johnna Ingersoll began her career in the Coroner's Office as Deputy Coroner, responsible for investigating deaths in Peoria County. Eight years later, she was promoted to Chief Deputy Coroner and in another eight years, was elected to serve as County Coroner. Since her election in 2004, Johnna has been responsible for overseeing investigations of more than 2,000 deaths annually. She is one of ten Board-Certified Medicolegal Death Investigators in Illinois as well as a Certified Medical Investigator and Law Enforcement Officer. Johnna has 19 years experience in death investigation and as Coroner is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death of any death coming under her jurisdiction.
Also, Johnna is supportive of enhancing and saving lives through organ and tissue donation whenever possible and was recognized as a 2007 Lifesaving Partner by the Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network for her best practices directing forensic teams; coordinating with State's Attorney's Offices, legal authorities and hospitals; and serving as a leader to increase opportunities for life-giving donations.
