Peoria County Chairman Accepting Applications for Sheriff

Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew A. Rand invites interested individuals to apply for the position of Peoria County Sheriff. The appointed individual will serve through November 30, 2018.

The vacancy was created after the retirement of Michael D. McCoy on June 29, 2017. Per statute, the Chairman, with the consent of the County Board, has 60 days to fill the vacant position. The resignation was accepted at the Peoria County Board meeting on July 13, 2017. The seat must be filled by August 28, 2017.

Also per statute, Sheriff McCoy's replacement must be a Republican and must reside within Peoria County.

The Sheriff's Office is one of the largest departments of Peoria County, overseeing more than 175 employees. In addition to law enforcement duties primarily in unincorporated areas of Peoria County, the office is responsible for Peoria County Jail operations and security at the Peoria County Courthouse.

Applications are being accepted through Monday, July 24 at 5 pm at the County Board Office. Interested parties should submit a resume, references, and a County Board Appointment Application found at to the attention of Chairman Andrew Rand, Peoria County Courthouse, 324 Main Street, Room 502, Peoria, IL 61602.
