Sheriff Appointment

Aug 7, 2017

Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew Rand has concluded candidate interviews for the vacant position of Peoria County Sheriff.  Chairman Rand, along with the selection committee made up of Republican County Board members Stephen Morris and Jim Fennel is pleased to announce that Interim Sheriff Brian Asbell has been selected for formal appointment.  This appointment will be brought to the full County Board for confirmation on August 10, 2017.

The Sheriff's Office is one of the largest departments of Peoria County, overseeing more than 175 employees. In addition to law enforcement duties primarily in unincorporated areas of Peoria County, the office is responsible for Peoria County Jail operations and security at the Peoria County Courthouse.

"Mr. Asbell's distinguished law enforcement career and commitment to Peoria County are just two of the many reasons that the committee believes he is the correct choice." says Rand.

The vacancy was created after the retirement of Michael D. McCoy on June 29, 2017.  The new Sheriff must be a Republican and must reside within Peoria County.
