Peoria County: Funding Survey
Help Peoria County plan for 2010 by completing our online funding survey.
Peoria County is seeking input from the community as we continue to develop our budget for 2010. Interested persons may complete an online survey that requests respondents to consider current funding levels for many county services and advise whether funding should remain at its current level, be increased, or be decreased for each service listed. In addition to its current funding level, a brief description of each service is provided, along with which County Board goal the service meets: Safe & Healthy Community, Growing County, High Performing Public Organization, or World Class Public Facilities.
After respondents weigh in on funding levels for justice functions, public safety functions, health & human services, general services, and infrastructure & development functions, they will have an opportunity to spend $100 as they see fit between the Board's aforementioned goals. How the $100 is divided should reflect the respondents' desire to put more money toward outcomes of a particular goal. If the respondent believes all goals should receive the same level of funding, $25 should be put toward each goal. It is possible for respondents to put $100 or $0 for a goal, as long as the total spent equals $100.
Results of the survey will help the County Board prioritize services by strategic goal and determine whether current funding levels for services adequately reflect citizens' priorities. County Board Chairman Tom O'Neill believes "the survey will give citizens an opportunity to weigh in on our resource allocations and affirm our priorities. It's common sense that public opinion should be considered when planning a budget funded by public dollars. The County Board anticipates honest response from our residents and will use results of this survey to help guide our future funding decisions." Peoria County's service funding survey is consistent with Best Practices in Public Budgeting as adopted by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting.
