County Board to Host Town Hall

On March 23, 2010, Peoria County Board Members Carol Trumpe and Brian Elsasser will hold a town hall meeting from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Peoria County Farm Bureau building, 1716 N. University St. in Peoria. The topic is video gaming. Speakers will present both sides of the issue, representing the following organizations:
  • Illinois Coalition for Employment and Business Growth
  • Illinois Church Action on Alcohol and Addiction Problems
  • West Central Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council

Youth Services Network Panel Hosts Free Public Workshop

On Thursday, March 11, the Youth Services Network Panel (YSNP) will host a free public workshop on "Risk Factors for Juveniles Becoming Involved in the Juvenile Justice System" from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Crittenton Center, 442 W John Gwynn Jr. Ave. Steven Kossman, Director of Probation and Court Services for Peoria County, will be presenting on this topic.

2010 Census Operation Update/Leave

2010 Census questionnaires will be mailed out mid-March for most areas. We have received notice that there are some places that will not be receiving their questionnaires in the mail; instead they will be receiving them in person from a census worker. The census worker will update the address if necessary and leave the census questionnaire at the residence. This is called Operation Update/Leave. Residents may see census workers delivering the forms as early as Februaru 26th, and this operation will last several weeks.

Residents Rate Peoria County

The County of Peoria recently received final survey results from its second annual National Citizen Survey conducted at the end of 2009. Peoria County surveys its residents to gauge citizen opinion of public services and to promote citizen engagement in local government. Results of the survey are taken into consideration when the County Board, Elected Officials, and management staff develop the county's annual strategic action agenda as part of its Strategic Plan; citizen ratings of local government services help us identify areas in need of improvement and focus more energy and resources on those areas.

Ballot Placement Lottery

A lottery will be held on March 16, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. to determine the order of placement of established political parties on the ballot for the November 2, 2010 General Election. The lottery will be held in the Peoria County Clerk's Office, Room 101, 324 Main Street, Peoria, IL. The lottery is open to the public.

Two PINS May Be Required for State Tax Return

As if tax preparation weren't already confusing, now you may need two "PIN" numbers when completing your State of Illinois Income Tax Return. For years, the State has required tax filers to provide their Personal Identification Number or PIN when completing their tax return form. But new this year, the State of Illinois is also requiring a Property Index Number or PIN on tax returns that claim a property tax credit; this PIN may also be referred to as a Parcel Identification Number or Permanent Index Number depending on the county in which you reside.
 
Confused? If you are claiming a property tax credit on your 2009 State of Illinois Income Tax Return, be sure you have two "PIN" numbers when filing:

Understanding the New Lead Law

Staff from the Illinois Department of Public Health's Lead Program will be holding meetings across the state to explain the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's new Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) lead law that goes into effect April 22, 2010. Staff will explain requirements of the law as it pertains to businesses. Property managers, landlords and contractors are encouraged to attend; members of the public are welcome also.
