Allen Road Reopens Tomorrow!

Allen Road, between Alta Road and Hickory Grove Road, will be reopened to traffic tomorrow afternoon, September 2, 2010. Motorists are advised to use caution and watch for new traffic signals at the intersection of Allen and Wilhelm Roads. With the opening of Allen Road, however, comes the closing of a portion of Wilhelm Road. Wilhelm Road, from Allen Road to Northfield Lane, will be closed for Phase 2 of the construction project. This portion of Wilhelm will only be accessible to local residents and emergency crews. Wilhelm is expected to reopen in November. Please contact the Peoria County Highway Department at 697-6400 with any questions.

Teachers' Retirement System Meeting

The Peoria County Regional Office of Education has partnered with Dunlap School District 323 and the Teachers' Retirement System (TRS) to host a meeting about TRS benefits on Wednesday, September 29, beginning at 4:30pm at Dunlap High School-Towne Center. The informational meeting will explain the benefits of TRS and the retirement process. Members of TRS who have questions about their benefits are also encouraged to attend. Assessment Process as Podcast

Citizens and interested persons can now participate in a property assessment workshop in the comfort of their own home by downloading a podcast of last week's free public workshop. Rabid Bats Found in Peoria

Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) reminds pet owners of the importance of keeping pets current on their rabies vaccinations after a second rabid bat was recently removed from a local residence. This time of year, residents may encounter bats inside their homes more often: you may walk into your house and find one lying on the floor or hanging on a wall. PCAPS will respond at any time to capture and impound bats that residents have encountered inside a home in Peoria County.
 
Normally, bats will not bother people but they may fly about if disturbed. Pets that come into contact with bats, or even kill them, are potentially exposing themselves to rabies because bats - like all mammals - can be carriers of the affliction. Th...

Elmore Road Closure

On August 30, the Peoria County Highway Department will begin construction of a new bridge on Elmore Road. During bridge construction the road will be closed. The road closure is expected to last through August 2011. The bridge is located two miles north of Route 78 and one mile south of Route 150 on Elmore Road.

Princeville-Jubilee Road and Legion Hall Road Intersection Closure

On August 30, the Peoria County Highway Department will begin construction at the intersection of Princeville-Jubilee Road and Legion Hall Road. Weather permitting, the road will be closed beginning September 7 for road reconstruction. The closure is expected to last through November 2010. A detour route will be posted.

Peoria County Contracts Disaster Coordinator

Effective immediately, Peoria County has contracted with John Hamann to serve as the County's Disaster Coordinator for a period of six months. As a result of the extensive damage caused by the June 5, 2010, tornado that touched down in Elmwood, the Peoria County Board approved the creation of a temporary Disaster Coordinator. The Disaster Coordinator will work as a consultant on the County's behalf with Elmwood officials, county staff, affected property owners, and state and federal agencies.

Learn How Property Is Assessed

Peoria County's Supervisor of Assessments Office is offering two free public workshops on the property assessment process: Wednesday, August 18 or Wednesday, September 1 in Room 402 of the County Courthouse, 324 Main St. Each class is 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Property owners interested in learning how their property is assessed or how to appeal their property assessment are encouraged to attend one of the free workshops. Participants will learn the property tax process, assessment procedures, the appeals process, and how to file a complaint. Time will be reserved for Q & A. Call 672-6910 to register.
