Construction to Begin on New War Memorial

The Peoria County Veteran’s Memorial Committee is pleased to announce that construction will soon begin for the final Veteran’s Memorial. The memorial will be constructed on the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza. The 40 ton granite memorial is scheduled to be delivered in late August.

Therefore, the committee is making a call for persons or groups wishing to help with the memorial project, by making a donation or purchasing a memorial brick/paver to please contact us soon. The new memorial, titled the FINAL SALUTE, is the final memorial addition to the courthouse plaza. This memorial shall honor thousands of Peoria County Veteran’s that served our nation since World War II as well as those that will serve in the future. In addition, this memorial will list the 236 names of the Peoria County Veterans that never returned home on its Granite Walls.

In addition to the granite base, the memorial will include 3 statues each depicting a U.S. Soldier from the Korean War, Vietnam War and the current War in the Middle East.
