County Board: 2009 Legislative Initiatives
To be a successful unit of local government, Peoria County must partner with other units of local government as well as state government. Oftentimes, county government services are mandated by the State of Illinois; other times, the services we provide - while not mandated - are still influenced by legislation at the state level. Therefore, Peoria County makes a concerted effort to cooperate with our state legislators on numerous initiatives that the County Board has identified and adopted as being most beneficial to the citizens we serve.
At the beginning of each year, the County Board presents these initiatives to local legislators for consideration by the General Assembly. On January 16, the County Board presented its 2009 initiatives at our annual Communication Links Workshop. The County is currently working with Senators Dave Koehler and Dale Risinger, and Representatives David Leitch, Michael Smith, and Jehan Gordon to sponsor legislation on the following important initiatives:
- Residential Certificates of Occupancy
- Notice to Appear citations for repeat offenders of zoning ordinances
- Local electrical contractors licensing
- Property tax work-off program
- Additional Care & Treatment Board members
- Streamlining the creation of county-wide Election Commission
