County Board: Rural Transportation
Peoria County receives grant funds from the Illinois Department of Transportation that enable the Rural Peoria County Council on Aging (RPCCA) to operate a public transportation system. This system is for residents living in Peoria County, but outside the City of Peoria. The transportation system is for the general public: everyone living in the service area is eligible to ride; the service is not limited to seniors or persons with disabilities. The cost to ride, however, is significant: $12.00 per trip.
We believe the expensive fare and lack of awareness of public transportation in rural Peoria County are the reasons for low ridership. People do not use this public transportation system (called Country Care) because they cannot afford to or they are not aware they can use it; many people believe it is solely for senior citizens.
Therefore, Peoria County and the RPCCA, along with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, and CityLink, are working together to reduce the cost to ride and to raise awareness of the service. These efforts will ultimately increase ridership, but we need your help to accomplish this.
To better serve Peoria County residents who live outside the City of Peoria, we need to know what your public transportation needs are. Please take a few minutes to complete our "Transportation Survey." Your responses will help us set a lower, more reasonable fare that will allow more people to take advantage of this public transportation service.
