County Clerk: Absentee Voting

WHO MAY VOTE BY ABSENTEE BALLOT?
Persons who are registered in Peoria County are eligible to cast an absentee ballot, there is no longer a need to give a reason for not voting on election day.

ABSENTEE VOTING BY MAIL
Step 1 - Request, complete and return an application for absentee ballot to the Peoria County Clerk's office. To obtain an application for absentee ballot, call the Peoria County Clerk's office at 309-672-6070. Applications can also be picked up at the County Clerk's office. Complete the application, including your name, home address and, if different, the address to which you want the ballot to be mailed. After completing the application, return it to the County Clerk's office. Your ballot will be mailed to you within two days. Ballots may not be mailed by our office more than 40 days nor less than five days prior to the election.

Step 2 - Upon receipt of the absentee ballot, follow all enclosed instructions to vote the ballot and mail it to the County Clerk's office by Election Day. Voted ballots may be returned by mail or may be returned by a spouse, parent, child, sibling, or a licensed delivery service if the special form included with the ballot is completed.

ABSENTEE VOTING IN PERSON
Any qualified voter may cast an absentee ballot in person at the Peoria County Clerk's office not more than 40 days nor less than one day prior to the election. For more information, call the Peoria County Clerk's office at 309-672-6070.

ABSENTEE VOTING BY A PHYSICALLY INCAPACITATED PERSON
Certain incapacitated voters may also qualify for additional absentee voting privileges as follows. Disabled Voter Program: if you are a disabled voter, you may enroll in this program; it is intended to simplify voting for individuals who, due to physical disability of a relatively permanent nature, cannot go to their polling place. Our office will automatically send you an application for an absentee ballot for all elections during a five-year period. Enrollment forms are available by calling the Peoria County Clerk's office at 309-672-6070.

Licensed Nursing Home Residents
Voters registered from licensed nursing homes who are enrolled in the Disabled Voter Program vote on the Friday, Saturday or Monday preceding an election. For complete information on nursing home voting procedures, contact the Peoria County Clerk's office at 309-672-6070.

Hospitalized Voter
A registered voter who is hospitalized not more than 14 days before an election may request that an absentee ballot be delivered in person to him or her in the hospital. An affidavit must be completed by the voter, his or her attending physician, and the relative (or registered voter of the same precinct) who delivers the absentee ballot to the hospital. Curbside Voting
Any handicapped or elderly voter who is physically unable to enter the polling place may request voting assistance outside the polling place, usually at curbside in a car. The voter should notify our office at least one day in advance of election day of this request. Call the Peoria County Clerk's office at 309-672-6070.

IF YOU REGISTERED BY MAIL
Voters who registered by mail, must vote the first time in person unless sufficient proof of identification is provided to the County Clerk. Please call 672-6070 for a list of acceptable identification.
