County Clerk: Marriage Licenses

If you plan to marry in Peoria County, both the bride and the groom must apply for your marriage license in our office. We are located in the Peoria County Courthouse at 324 Main Street, Room 101. For additional information, call 309-672-6059.

AGE

Both applicants must be present to obtain a license and be 18 years of age. Applicants 16 or 17 years of age may marry only after both parents of the minor sign a consent form available from our office. The signature of the consenting parents must be notarized. Your parents may complete the form when you obtain your license but they must provide identification for the notary, or if consenting parents complete the form prior to the time of application, the signatures must be notarized. ALL APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW PROOF OF AGE: We accept a certified copy of a birth certificate, a valid driver's license, a draft card, state I.D., U.S. Passport or military I.D. If you are 16 or 17, you must bring a certified copy of your birth certificate.

PREVIOUS MARRIAGES

We must know how your previous marriage ended, including the date, county and state in which it ended. If a prior marriage ended within the last six months, the County Clerk's office must see a certified copy (a photocopy is not sufficient) of the death record, divorce or annulment decree.

NON-RESIDENTS

If either person lives in another state, we will only issue a license if the marriage would not be prohibited by that state.

EFFECTIVE DATE OF LICENSE

Marriage licenses must be obtained at least one day prior to the marriage. The marriage must take place in Peoria County within 60 days.

FEE

The fee for a marriage license is $42.00. Only cash/debit is accepted. There is a $2.50 charge for debit card usage. After your marriage, certified copies of your Marriage Certificate may be purchased. The first certified copy is $13.75 and additional copies are $6.00 each.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION

No medical tests are required.

CLERGY OR JUDGE SERVICES

Judges will perform ceremonies in the Courthouse. Appointments are necessary. For information regarding judges, please call 309-672-6036. The judges fee is $10.00 and witnesses are not required.
