The Peoria County Family Justice Center opened in October 2004. The Peoria County Family Justice Center (FJC) is a coordinated community response to domestic violence for all of Peoria County. Five agencies partner in this collaborative domestic violence multi-disciplinary team approach to incidents of domestic violence in our community. The agencies are: Peoria County State's Attorney Office, Peoria County Sheriff's Office, Peoria County Probation, Peoria Police Department, and The Center for Prevention of Abuse.

The Peoria County Family Justice Center is monitored by the Family Justice Center Steering Committee. The members of this committee are: The Honorable Stuart P. Borden, Chief Judge of Tenth Judicial Circuit of Illinois, Jerry Brady, Peoria County State's Attorney; Sheriff Michael D. McCoy, Peoria County Sheriff, Chief Steven M. Settingsgaard, Chief of Peoria Police Department; Martha Herm, Executive Director of The Center for Prevention of Abuse, and Steven Kossman, Director of Peoria County Probation Services.

The Peoria County Family Justice Center is funded through the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, via a S.T.O.P Violence Against Women Formula Grant awarded by The United States Department of Justice. These grants have been made possible by the passage of the Violence Against Women Act in 1994.
