Law Library: Finding an Attorney
If you haven't been able to find a lawyer to help you, here are some options:
If you do not make much money, you might be eligible for legal aid. Prairie State Legal Services has a local counseling line at (309) 674-9831 or toll free at 1-800-322-2280. This service is available Monday through Friday from 9:05 am to 11:45 am and 1:05 pm to 4:00 pm. You will be able to speak with a lawyer about your legal problem and possibly obtain legal representation through Prairie State Legal Services or the Peoria County Pro Bono Plan.
If you have money to pay a lawyer, you can contact the Illinois State Bar Association's Lawyer finder service at www.illinoislawyerfinder.com or the Peoria County Bar Association's Lawyer Referral Service at (309) 674-1224. These services provide you the name of a local lawyer with whom you can discuss your legal problem for a reduced fee. After the initial consultation, you can decide whether or not to hire the lawyer.
If you cannot find a lawyer to help you, you may be able to use the free Peoria County Legal Self-Help Center.
