Winter Weather Advisory is Here

Dec 16, 2016 (updated on Dec 16, 2016)

With a Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service (NWS) in place this weekend in the Peoria Region, expect cold weather, windy conditions, and a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Local Health Departments encourage travelers to be aware of slippery roads and announce the opening of warming centers for individuals who need to seek shelter during this cold weather.

Peoria City/County Health Department encourages families to remember these tips:

  • Prepare emergency kits for homes and cars.

  • Check on friends and neighbors.

  • Bundle up for winter, especially children who are particularly vulnerable to very cold temperatures.

  • Consider bringing pets inside during extreme weather.

  • Review your family communications plan if you are separated or late for arrival.

  • Understand the signs of hypothermia.

  • Learn your County name, since county names are used to identify areas of risk

  • Know where to get winter info and alerts.
