Health Department Employee Serves as National Reviewer

Aug 24, 2017

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has chosen Jason Marks of Peoria City/County Health Department to serve as a national reviewer for Project Public Health Ready. Reviewers assess project applications from public health agencies against criteria for public health preparedness and response.

NACCHO accepts only qualified individuals to serve with this national review group. Knowledge and experience with public health preparedness are among the qualification to review project applications from nearly 3,000 health departments across the nation.

Marks will review local health departments as part of the Project Public Health Ready training and recognition program to assess the capacity and capability to plan for, respond to, and recover from public health emergencies. The Project is designed to strengthen public health infrastructure, by working with response partners to integrate their plans and processes into the larger preparedness community. Project goals include all-hazards preparedness planning, workforce capacity development, and demonstration of readiness through exercises or real events.

"Not only will participation as a national reviewer allow me to share my preparedness knowledge and experience with other agencies," Marks states, "but will also provide me with networking opportunities to learn innovative practices from other public health professionals throughout the country."

Marks currently serves as Emergency Preparedness Coordinator at Peoria City/County Health Department and uses his subject matter expertise in local planning, development, and implementation of emergency preparedness activities to assure a prepared community response to threats to the public's health.
