Zika Virus

An outbreak of Zika virus is occurring in parts of Central and South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Currently, people living in the Peoria area who have not traveled to these areas are generally not considered at risk for infection. Zika virus is not spread from person to person the way cold and flu are. At this time, the main concern is that Zika infection in pregnant women may be linked to birth defects.

Medical providers: Contact your local health department to discuss or facilitate possible Zika virus testing.
