Planning & Zoning: Flood Information

Local creeks and waterways such as the well known Illinois River may place Peoria County residents in a Special Flood Hazard Area (i.e., SFHA). We want you to be aware of the hazards associated with the SFHA and what can be done to reduce flood damages and properly protect your property. The County also participates in the Community Rating System Program which reduces flood insurance policy rates for all unincorporated County residents through proper floodplain management programs.

Specific property information including non-certified elevations, floodway and floodplain boundaries, etc. may be found in the following documents, which are available for viewing in our office:

Peoria County Hazard Mitigation Plan 1985 - Outlining properties along various streets in the Illinois River Watershed.

Kickapoo Valley Mitigation Plan 1997 - Outlining properties located along Farmington Road in the Kickapoo Creek Watershed.

For more information on flood hazards, construction rules, or flood protection measures please contact the Planning and Zoning Department.
