The Peoria County Auxiliary Unit (both Mobile and Posse) are made up of volunteers from our County. While training and some equipment is provided, no wages are paid. Applications to fill a position in the Sheriff's Auxiliary or Posse may be picked up at the:

Applicants for the mobile unit must be:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • 21 years of age
  • Current resident of Peoria
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Valid Illinois Drivers Licence
  • Valid F.O.I.D. Card
  • Pass Background Investigation
  • Pass Criminal History Background check
  • Pass Drivers History Inquiry
  • Pass Psychological Evaluation
  • Able to volunteer 10 hours or more a month plus attend monthly meetings

Applicants for the Mounted Auxiliary (Posse) must meet the above qualifications plus:

  • Applicant must own a horse
  • Applicant must own a means of transporting a horse, ie: trailor or truck
  • Only Western saddles will be allowed while on official callouts, including parades
  • Applicant must demonstrate their ability to ride and handle their horse to the satisfaction of the Sheriff and/or committee appointed by the Executive Board before being accepted into the Unit.
