Peoria County Sheriff’s Office: Commissioned Personnel

Picture of Commissioned Personnel Patch

Our Commissioned Personnel are the enforcement arm of our Department. Full time Law Enforcement Officers, they are assigned the Patrol Division and/or specialized units. These personnel are highly trained, with each recruit undergoing a 480 hour basic law enforcement class at the University of Illinois' Police Training Institute, and a 14 week Field Training Officer course prior to their initial patrol assignment.

Experienced personnel receive an average of 95 hours of additional training each year. Captain David Briggs commands all Commissioned Personnel, and under him are nine Lieutenants. Six Lieutenants are assigned to the Patrol Division, one Lieutenant heads the Detectives and Crime Scene personnel, one Lieutenant is assigned to Special Projects, and one Lieutenant is responsible for Training, Communications, and Uniforms and Equipment.

Special units include K-9, Auxilary/Posse and D.A.R.E.
