Food Scrap Composting Kit Giveaway

The Peoria County Sustainability & Resource Conservation Team is celebrating Earth Month 2021 with a Food Scrap Composting Kit Giveaway! The winners of our Earth Month Giveaway will receive a starter subscription to help them begin Food Scrap Composting at home.

Food scraps make up about 30% of what we throw away. By turning those unused scraps into composted material, we are able to put beneficial nutrients back into the earth and add to the value of our soil. Food scrap composting services also allow residents to compost a larger variety of materials that cannot be composted through backyard or vermicomposting (worm composting).

The Food Scrap Composting Kit Giveaway starts Sunday, April 18, 2021 and lasts through 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, May 7, 2021.

The prize includes a Food Scrap Composting Starter Kit from Better Earth Logistics with a bucket, bags, kiosk key card, and printed instructions. This starter kit lasts about three (3) months for the average household but may vary depending on the frequency of use.

This Food Scrap Composting kit and service allows subscribers to compost food scraps and leftovers, including: fruits, veggies, meat, dairy, shells, bones, coffee grounds, filters, cut flowers, and compostable packaging. See a complete list of compostable materials here!

Filled composting bags will be deposited by the user at the kiosk located at Sous Chef in Peoria (1311 SW Adams Street). The kiosk is managed by Better Earth Logistics, who collect and compost the food scrap materials and turn them into the nutrient-rich soil additive used by landscapers, gardeners, and farmers.
