Chief Judge Issues Administrative Order to Limit Courthouse Visitors

Effective March 13, 2020, The Peoria County Courts remain open and will continue to monitor local and state health responses to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Out of an abundance of caution, the Chief Judge of the Tenth Circuit has issued new guidelines and precautions to reduce the number of people entering the Peoria County Courthouse for court-related business. These new precautiions include information on: Court Facilities, Jury Service, Marriages, Remote Appearances, Employees and Staff, Probation and Pre-Trial Services, Courthouse Tours, and Traffic Tickets. Also effective March 13, 2020, Chief Judge Gilfillan has issued an Administrative Order restricting certain individuals from entering the Peoria County Courthouse.

The following individuals shall not enter the Peoria County Courthouse until further Order:

  • Persons who have been in any of the following countries within the last 21 days: China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Iran (list subject to be updated)
  • Persons who reside or have had close contact with someone who has been in one of the above listed countries within the last 21 days
  • Persons who have been asked to self-quarantine by any medical provider
  • Persons who have been diagnosed with, or have had contact with anyone diagnosed with, COVID-19
  • Persons with a fever, cough, or shortness of breath

Any attempt to enter the Courthouse in violation of these restrictions will be denied entry by a Court Security Officer. The Administrative Order issued by Chief Judge Gilfillan can be viewed in its entirety here.

Court is not always in session when the courthouse is open, however, the 10th Judicial Circuit observes additional holidays. The Courthouse is open but no courts will be held on the following days:

  • Lincoln's Birthday (observed)
  • Columbus Day
  • Veteran's Day (observed)
