Summer Reading Kickoff Event

Slide into Summer Reading Poster

The Peoria Regional Office of Education is proud to partner with Align Peoria to sponsor a launch day for their summer reading program, Slide Into Summer. The launch day will be on June 1, 2019, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on the campus of the Lakeview Library and the Noble Center. Families can enjoy free food, giveaways, free books, activities, and most importantly, get signed up for the summer reading program. WTVP is hosting a special visit by Daniel the Tiger and The Peoria Playhouse will be setting up their Imagination Station.

Every summer, children can lose up to 2-3 months of academic gains due to an effect known as the summer slide. Align Peoria is working to prevent this slide by partnering with the Peoria Public Library’s summer reading program to encourage families to read 20 minutes a day with their children. Local summer camps will be participating by building in the 20-minute reading period.

Other sponsors include: PNC, Peoria Public Schools, Peoria Park District, Peoria Public Libraries, Common Place, Look It’s My Book, the Book Rack, Dyslexia Network, Fun on the Run

Press welcome to the kick off at 11:00. Dr. Nicole Wood, Executive Director for Primary Schools at Peoria Public Schools will be available for comment.
