Jerry Brady was born in Galesburg, Illinois and moved to Peoria while in grade school. He attended Spalding Institute and graduated from Bradley University in 1972. After graduation, he worked briefly before attending St. Louis University Law School where he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence Law degree in 1981. During law school, he was an intern in the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office under State's Attorney Michael Mihm and was chairman of the Moot Court Program.

Work History
From 1982 until 1985, he was an Assistant State's Attorney working in traffic, misdemeanor, and felony divisions. Beginning in 1985, he began private practice as a part-time public defender in the felony division and became associated with Kelly and Brady in the general practice of law. During his 26 years in private practice, he has handled a general practice with concentration in both criminal and civil trial litigation.

Becoming the Attorney
On August 1, 2011, Jerry Brady was sworn in as Peoria County State's Attorney following Kevin Lyons' 23 years as State's Attorney. Jerry Brady is a member of the Peoria County and Illinois State Bar Associations.

Attorney's Office Responsibility
The Peoria County State's Attorney's Office prosecutes criminal defendants and represents all elected county offices in civil, labor and administrative matters, including the Sheriff, Coroner, Treasurer, Clerks, County Administrator and Peoria County Board and addresses matters of dispute related to the County's 900 employees.
