Jamie Harwood


A Servant Leader, Jamie Harwood is a Registered Nurse with 20 years of nursing experience.  Jamie graduated from Methodist School of Nursing in 1997 with a Diploma in Nursing, and in 2015 completed with Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the Pennsylvania State University.  While studying at Penn State, Jamie took course work in Forensic Nursing, and was able to sit for the certification exam as a Certified Forensic Nurse. 

Jamie spent most his nursing career in Pre-Hospital EMS, Emergency Medicine, Trauma and Critical Care, helping people through the most vulnerable times of their lives.  This has been and remains his passion in caring for families of the deceased. 

Jamie is a member of the Peoria Community Against Violence, the Mayors Community Coalition Against Heroin, and sits on the Tri-County Death Review Board; Jamie actively participates on the Illinois Violent Death Reporting Committee, and supports research in the investigations of violent deaths, including homicides and suicides; as a living kidney donor, Jamie was named a Life-Saving Leader with the Gift of Hope, and also sits on the Gift of Hope Coroner Advisory Committee in IL; Jamie is an active participant in Whitney’s Walk for suicide prevention, and actively supports the Beau Grant Foundation for Survivors of Suicide.  Jamie is a member of the Peoria Rotary Club, and supporting a healthy, safe and happy community is his priority.

In his free time, Jamie likes to spend time with his husband Jonathan, and three kids, Hunter (17) Hope (14), and Jacob (6 months), as well as his extended family. He enjoys research that supports his profession as Coroner and death investigations, ensuring that evidenced based best practice abounds in Peoria County.  He enjoys Penn State Football, Chicago Cubs baseball, traveling, reading, exercising, an occasional karaoke song.
